********************************** Milestone XProtect Professional 8.1a ********************************** This ReadMe file provides information about any last-minute changes to the product, license information, how to contact product support and more. ---------- Important: ---------- From the Management Application, you can view live video from single cameras directly: To view live video from a particular camera, in the Management Application's navigation pane, expand Advanced Configuration, expand Cameras and Storage Information, and select the required camera. Note, however, that viewing live video in the Management Application can affect any simultaneous recording from the camera in question. Especially three scenarios are important: 1) If a second stream is opened to multi-streaming cameras, these cameras may reduce their frame rate considerably, have long response times, and similar. 2) If a camera delivers live video in very high quality, de-coding of images may increase the load on the Recording Server service, which may in turn negatively affect the quality of ongoing recordings. 3) Cameras not supporting multiple simultaneous video streams will not be able to connect to both the recording server and the Management Application at the same time. It is therefore recommended to stop the Recording Server service when configuring motion detection and PTZ preset positions on such devices. Please take this into consideration especially with Sanyo, Basler or cameras using the DirectShow driver. In order to avoid loss of recordings due to unavailable network drives, only local drives can be used as the location for camera databases. The default location is C:\MediaDatabase. If you upgrade a system using a network drive for the camera databases, please note that these camera database paths cannot be changed, unless the database is first moved to a local drive. If not, the system will work as before. Any new cameras added to the system will, however, require that the camera database resides on a local drive. However, camera archives can still be located on network drives. -------------------- Known Server Issues: -------------------- If upgrading from a previous version with an alarm definition using the triggering event "Archive Move Failure", it will be changed to an "Archive Failure" event as the "Archive Move Failure" event is obsolete. If you get an error message saying that Microsoft XML 4.0 needs to be installed while installing on a Japanese version of Windows XP, please install Microsoft XML 4.0 manually. PTZ Patrolling options are not always enabled for a PTZ device in the Schedule Properties dialog before the Management Application has been restarted. If an output is added to a device in the Management Application, it cannot be triggered from the Management Application before the Management Application has been restarted. If you want to run a local language version containing non-ascii characters on an English Windows 7 operating system, you must first change your language settings for non-Unicode programs to allow the Professional Installer to run successfully. To do this, open the Region and Language window from the Control Panel, and, on the Administrative tab, change the system locale to the relevant language and copy the settings to all user accounts. System Watch: When clicking on the Syslog Test button in the System Watch administrator, you will get an OK result back regardless of whether the service listening on the specified address is a syslog server or not. -------------------- Known Client Issues: -------------------- If running the Smart Client in a language using a non-Latin alphabet, the language for non-Unicode programs in Windows must be set to that non-Latin language. In Windows 7, this is done in Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Administrative. If you have used the "Video Quality" feature in the Smart Client, and then disabled it again, the feature is actually not disabled unless you switch to another view. When a Transact view item is selected the buttons for last, first, next and previous frame or sequence are not available. --------- Licensing: ---------- The product contains technology to prevent unlicensed use of the product. Before the expiration of the trial period, you must perform a mandatory online or offline activation of the product in order not to lose any video data. Failing to activate the product before the trial period expires, will result in a disruption of operation. When you have added new hardware, you must also reactivate the product before the grace period ends. The trial period is typically 30 (thirty) days from the installation date. ---------------- Product Support: ---------------- To obtain product support, contact your Milestone XProtect Professional vendor.
